The sun had just begun to set in the sky. Light from the falling sun shimmered in through the window, illuminating Kanbei's room.
Kanbei sat comfortably on the wooden floor, legs crossed and hands holding a scroll he'd long been enveloped in reading. Laying on the floor right in front of him was his best friend, Hanbei Takenaka, who had no qualms being obvious with his eagerness to spend time with the younger, dark and gloomy male. Although Kanbei wasn't one to express his delight at his presence, it was unnecessary as Hanbei had long picked up on the other's feelings. They enjoyed each others company, so much so that they were inseparable, no matter how one-sided Kanbei unintentionally made things appear.
The comfortable silence had been within the room for nearly an hour, Kanbei reading quietly and Hanbei, not discreetly, admiring him. Actually, that wasn't the case. Hanbei was so obvious, he was blatantly hoping Kanbei WOULD notice, ask why, and then he'd be free to tell him whatever he liked. But Hanbei's patience was wearing thin and Kanbei was simply becoming unbearable. He felt it was necessary to start a conversation and fast.
"Kanbei-dono... can I ask you a question?" Hanbei asked, staring dazedly at the taller male. Over the course of his extensive time spent admiring him, the cheerful boy couldn't help but wonder what was on his mind. Not surprisingly, he already had an idea.
Kanbei didn't look away from his book. He simply flipped the page but nonetheless, opened his mouth to answer Hanbei. "Depends on the question."
Hanbei sat up and stretched, "What's your idea of a perfect world?" just a question, it purpose was simple.
Get Kanbei thinking outside his book.
Kanbei looked at him and Hanbei shouted 'success' in his mind. "What do you mean?"
"If you could make a world of your own, what would it be like?"
Kanbei looked to be full of thought. "Quiet. Peaceful. The most unruly of mankind wouldn't mock the world by frolicing about, offering nothing but chaos to the land."
Hanbei pouted and then let out a childish groan. "Kanbei-dono! You're so predictable!" he stood up and moved to 'hover' over him. He pulled the book from his mate's hand and sat it to the side. "I mean... what would you have in your world? Grass? Trees? Flowers? Would it rain? Would people have friends?"
While Hanbei's 'hovering' failed to intimidate him (due to Hanbei's small stature), Kanbei tilt his head to the side, pondering this. "Interesting proposal, may I inquire what brought this on?"
Hanbei placed his hands on Kanbei's and pressed his forehead against his. "Because I'm curious as to what you could come up with."
Kanbei was temporarily lost to his thoughts, that is, until he realized he was simply enchanted by Hanbei more and shook his head to break the trance. "You asked would it rain... my answer is yes."
"Mine would have rain be a sign that the world was being cleansed." Hanbei stated. "The rain would wash away everyone's troubles, disease and suffering. It would be medicine for everyone."
Kanbei sympathized with that sentiment, and caught the implication. He thought of the fit of coughs his partner had earlier in the day. Fate would have it that they weren't to be together much longer... "It would rain in my world; a symbol peace and tranquility like it was destined to. During the rain, all would be quiet."
Hanbei smirked, all was going well. He and Kanbei could have another one of their debates for as long as time went on (like they always would), but moments like these were particularly important to him. "People would be able to live underwater and fish would be able to breath air."
"For what reason though?"
"These things need no reason, Kanbei-dono. All they need is thought."
Kanbei smirked and shook his head once before reaching for his former book. Hanbei quickly slapped at that hand, almost startling the other but his mask as always was a hard one. Before his friend could say anything else, Hanbei laid across his lap and grinned at his uncharacteristic surprise. "No, no, no Kanbei-dono. You and I are gonna chat for a bit -- understand?"
"Hanbei--"
"Please?"
The big, puppy eyes Hanbei gave him stirred something deep within. His petite friend's innocence never ceased to pull at his heart strings. Kanbei was weakened, and slowly, stiffly, nodded in response. "Very well, please continue."
Hanbei smiled, "I want one from you. Give me something really wild! Something that goes beyond the limits of this world!"
Sitting there, on his lap, waiting for his friend's response was no big deal for him. After a moment however, Hanbei wondered if he was perhaps making his friend uncomfortable. Where he usually thought Kanbei was just unfamiliar with closeness, he now pondered that he had underestimated the extent of the man's troubles.
"We would be able to fly and birds could speak."
And like that, his fears washed away -- and even more when he felt a soothing hand massage (awkwardly) through his hair.
"That's a good one, Kanbei." he sighed. "I think winter would be spring, spring would be summer, autumn would be winter and summer would be autumn."
"Trees would grow from the west."
"Flowers would fall from the sky."
"Bees would not exist." they both said, laughing afterward at their similar thought.
Hanbei looked out the window and smiled, admiring the sunsets glow. It seemed to be shining on the two of them. "I'd... keep the sunset."
"I'd make it permanent."
Hanbei's eyes widened as he turned his gaze back to Kanbei. He was surprised to see him staring at him, there was something warm behind that mask of indifference. "Kanbei would belong to Hanbei." Hanbei said ever so proudly, a sweet smile graced his charming features.
"And vice versa." Kanbei said, although he remained as emotionless as ever, Hanbei knew there was no mistaking the connection they had.
"A world of our own... ne, Kanbei?" he whispered lovingly.
Kanbei noticed the lack of formality but really didn't mind. "A... perfect world."
Where you and I would be together forever.

EDIT: I originally made this on my LiveJournal back in December of 2010. THAT WAS 4 YEARS AGO, WOW! Well, I fixed up some things and straightened out a lot of the OOCness I noticed I had from back then. Hopefully it's a lot easier to read.
See ya next time!
